Wednesday's Thoughts

This 'down-sizing', or whatever you want to call it, that I have been doing never seems to end. I still have STUFF in my old house that I need to clean out but man, it's hot weather and I hate hot weather. I just keep putting off all that hard, sweaty work.

I know I need to sell that place. It's not much fun on my pocketbook (oh lordy, how long has it been since I heard that term) keeping up two places. And, I sure would love to just be settled into the apartment and not have to worry about anything else.

My wonderful daughter, Shirley, put my left-over furniture on Craig's list and has sold most of it. Oh, there's an odd floor lamp or two, a mirror or two, a rocker (dang, I hate to get rid of that rocker). Maybe it not being bought, it's trying to tell me something. Shirley has packed and dragged out and arranged and fixed... without her that house would still be full!!

It's the funniest thing, too. I don't miss all that STUFF. I am doing so well with what I was able to bring with me. Life sure is funny, isn't it? We think we have to have possessions and then those things began to possess us. I feel a real sense of freedom.

I hope all of you finish out the week with a smile on your face and hope in your heart.

  1. Good Morning, You sure have a pretty view from your porch.
We have drastically downsized too. It is so much easier to keep clean and organized now.

  6. It's pleasing to hear you say you aren't missing your 'stuff' Latane……I hope I can feel that way if/when we have to move!

It's the same with clothes - far too many choking the closets here - end of Summer a big clean out on the calendar.

    Happy day, happy week.

  7. It is funny, Latane. I sometimes think we often get things just to fill empty corners instead of needs. Been gone from VA for the last couple of weeks. Glad to see the rains have stopped. Not sure what I'll find when I get home tomorrow.... have a nice weekend.

  8. I know what you mean about STUFF. When I clean out stuff and get rid of what I don't need, I actually feel lighter. Good luck in finishing up this big project!

  10. I read more and more blogs about making do with less. Stuff really does have a way of owning us.

  11. We may soon be in the same position, Latane, as we are seriously considering a rental place where we want to relocate, even though it would be many hours from our current home. On the plus side is that we could keep some smaller pieces of furniture and relocate them, but we do not plan to keep everything and also will downsize as you have done. When we bought our current VA home we sort of upsized and now it's time to downscale. Wish we had a Shirley here to help😏

  12. Love your geraniums, Mom! I know how hard all this sorting, selling and moving has been! I hate you have so much to send us, but maybe the house won't sell before we can come out there to pick up what you haven't mailed. Or, a few things could be put into a small storage bin for a couple of months till we can come. We really want to make the trip next summer. This has to be such an enormous job! I dread going through our storage, too! :-)
