Summer's almost gone.

Summertime is almost over. I am beginning to see the first signs of Fall, like some yellow leaves here and there, some goldenrod blooming by the roadside, a flock of geese flying overhead. I am sad to see summer go as it wasn't a terribly hot summer, more bearable than it often is. Fall is beautiful and I welcome it but it announces the coming of Winter and that I dread with heavy heart.

I want to share this poem with you.....

and maybe a few summer pictures.........

my mandevilla blooming on my balcony.

my hummer paying a call.

Enjoying a beautiful sunset.

taking up working with pastels again.

Yep, it's been a great summer. But, time to move on. Fall is just around the corner.

Have a great week,

  1. Oh my what a lovely poem! And a lovely post. Filled with bitter-sweet anticipation of the fall. A sad goodbye with sweet memories to the summer. Lovely images too! I love that hummer, and the sunset. And wow...beautiful flower! But, it isn't like the bougainvillea here, which is a vine with sharp thorns and a less defined flower head, growing more in clusters than a single flower on a stem. What you have is gorgeous! But, I don't think it's the same. LOVE your pastel picture! OH and btw, I didn't use a zoom on the Cooper's Hawks. My back yard is roughly 20 feet deep, maybe 25, tops, to the fence and my back porch juts out into it only 6 feet. I did crop some of the pictures, but I didn't have to "zoom" much to get the shots. They totally disregarded my presence on the porch. It was SOOO cool!

  3. The little poem has it right, we're at that time where we're still enjoying summer but we do know autumn is right around the corner. As it and winter are my favorites I can't help but be glad. Like you though, my husband sure does dread winter.

    Your pastel tulips are lovely!

  4. Hey Latane, if I hadn't just seen my Ms. Ruby on the feeder I would have thought she'd flown up to yours in Virginia!!!!

I love the poem - one of those dear, old fashioned ones from a more gentle time. How the world has changed, and unfortunately not for the better I fear.

    Happy almost Autumn Latane.

  7. Love that poem and you have perfectly expressed the reasons why I am always hesitant to welcome my favorite season since it is followed by my least favorite. Keep enjoying your late summer days.

  8. Yes, fall will be coming soon and admittedly none too soon for me as it's a favorite season, along with winter (yes) and spring and summer too...gee all of them! Some nice images here, Latane, especially the one of the hummer and your artwork.

  10. Hello Latane, It is so good to read your blog. It brightens my day and gives me cheer. I love your gorgeous yellow flowers at the beginning of your blog. Yellow is very attractive!!!! I am so impressed that you are taking up your pastels again. My the one of the tulips is so lovely. I hope you realize hos nice it is. I have never grown mandevilla before. Every year I adore them so much but I have so many flowers here and I do not now how much work they take. They sure are magnificent beauties. Maybe next year. So wonderful to read your post. You are such a very nice person.

    Blessings, Susannah

  12. We need all the seasons to really appreciate our favorites, although I'd love to have shorter winters and longer springs!
