Rock Fences

Today is Friday and that means FRIDAY FENCES. There are so many interesting fences around the countryside ... you just ought to click on link and take a look. Thanks Jan and Jer for hosting this meme.

I have rock fences on my mind today. They are so sturdy, a lot of hard work but lasting a lifetime or longer. Says a lot about the builders character.

This fence surrounded some property in Rye, New York. Looks like the owner just used whatever was handy.

as opposed to this highly stylized fence and gate in front of a stone mansion.(Rye, again)

I love this gate.

I captured this chilly fence in wintertime.

Don't remember where I was when I found this pretty fence.

And, this last one is in Ireland taken on a trip my daughter and I made several years ago.

  1. Hi Latane, I love fences that I call 'home-made' like the first one or the last two photos... Gorgeous!!! Reminds me of some of the old fences in the Smokies.

    Hugs,

  3. I love the stone fences that are made from whatever they have. We don't see them here. I've only seen them when I've been to the North Eastern States.
Love the one with the snow!

  5. Great stone fences!!! And, I do love that gate in that third picture! I do love stone. I know you would think this is weird, but I wish I could build something out of stone! :-) I can hardly lift a rock you chuck across a creek! So, it's not something that will happen, but I always thought about wanting to do it. Remember those lace fences in Ireland that you could see the sunlight between the stones? I don't know if we got a picture of one. Awesome FF, Mom! I skipped this week, but I'll be back in full force next Friday!

  14. Composite decking is not structural material--so the rails will have to be made from something else Rail
