Celebrating My 1000th Post

Today I am feeling very springy! I am so tired of cold, wet weather and yet here I sit, listening to a thunderstorm on my Echo. But, that's dry wet! (grin)

My daughter decided I needed a picker-upper and bought me a beautiful new planter filled with geraniums, zinnas and some sort of little white flowering vine. I never can remember the name of it. The planter went out on my balcony and since my balcony is just off my living room, if the weather is bad I can see that lovely thing from my recliner! Loving it. 

Monday Morning Sunrise

After being 'under the weather' or 'spinning around like a top', whichever title you want to give a bout of vertigo, I woke up this morning to this stunning sunrise. I never see the sun 'come up' as a copse of trees are in my view but just look at this! What a way to start your day, right?

Pink Flowers In My Yard

I recently sold my home to a somewhat younger couple (mid fifties I guess). That old house needed a bunch of work. We all (humans, houses etc) do tend to deteriorate with age, don't we? It worried me a bit that perhaps after they moved in they would be dis-enchanted with it's charm as they faced one repair after another.  

I was so happy to learn yesterday that they LOVE the house, faults and all. I know I am in a good place for me at this time in my life. And, it's such a blessing to know that my home will be loved and cared for since I couldn't anymore. 

I want to share some pretty flowers from days gone by....
They once graced my yard at that house.

This huge plumeria (potted so I could bring it in for the winter) reminded me of our stay in Hawaii.

I had two of these beautiful planters that mark the corners of my patio. 

The heavenly scent of these stargazer lilies greeted me every time I went out the kitchen door.

Sweet little dianthus grew under the kitchen window.

and sedum bloomed along the fence.

Pink At Midnight

                                                             It's midnight.

"What you doing up at this hour?" I ask myself.

"Oh, nothing much. Couldn't sleep. I guess I will visit with my blogging buddies awhile. I wonder if they are awake, too?"

Never mind.. we can reach each other whenever we want, over time, space and thought waves.

                                                      That's the neatest thing ever.

I appreciate so much all you gals (and a few guys, too) who have come to mean so much to me over these last few years of jotting down my thoughts, sharing my pictures while I Live Life On Main Street. So, we'll just spend a bit of midnight hour together, if you don't have anything better to do.

I wonder if Denise is awake? She's an English Girl who rambles. I thought she and I would share some flowers with our friends who can't sleep tonight. Join us at Today's Flowers and we'll wander among the gardens and smell the blossoms. Maybe we will pick a few to enjoy tomorrow. And, don't forget Beverly at Pink Saturday. We'll stop by there, too.

Since I now live in an apartment it's sort of a trip down memory lane to see these pictures. I do love flowers, don't you?

Just Some Old Stuff.

Today is Tuesday or dang near was early this morning... but it's late in the day. I was chatting with my daughter, Marie of It's a Colorful World and she encouraged me to visit a new site and join in on a meme. So, I said I thought I would do just that.

What to pick for my first entry. I spent hours looking through my pictures, trying to decide what would work. Didn't have any new ones handy since I didn't know in advance I was going to be doing this. But, I will be on the lookout for things to shoot, you can bet on that.

I decided to focus on old water pumps. This one is in a friend's yard. Not being used now but decorative, just the same.

 

And, this one was in my back yard before I moved recently. Decoration only.

 

 

They both were once the source of water for families who lived there.

Peeping Tom

I mentioned awhile back that I had a peeping tom. Scary right? What would you do if you had someone/something peeping in your window?

One day I heard this noise at my sunroom door, scratch, scratch, scratch....

Who or what could it be? Who was trying to get in?

Finally I see two bright beady eyes peeping around the window frame, staring at me......

'May I come in, please? I will be ever so good.'  Nope, little squirrel, you may not come inside.

So, he turns and starts scratching on the door again. See the door knob right about his head?

 

The next day he was back climbing up the side of my door and window frame (the door and window are side by side). What does that inquisitive little squirrel want!

 

Suddenly he leaped across the windows and fell to the ground. Gee, I wish I had a picture of that!Then I saw what he was after.....

My window birdfeeder that is stuck on the middle window. It was just too far for him to jump to. Sorry, squirrel... well, no I am not sorry. You have enough to eat out of the other feeders.

Snow, go away, come again another day.

Another Day, Another Dollar....

Why did that silly phrase come to mind. It is another day, Friday to be exact and time for http://aruraljournal.blogspot.com/ However, I am not sure how I will come up with another dollar!!

My Random Five Friday entries for today are:

1. The snow is beautiful but enough, already. I need for my driveway to melt. No, I mean the snow to melt off of the driveway. So I can get me outta the house. Cabin Fever!!

 

2. I worry about my birds. Too afraid of falling ( I seem to be an expert at that) to venture out in the snow to fill my feeders. Broken leg - Hungry birds.  Either one is not good but I don't want a break, that's for sure.

See the feeder is empty... the birds are scrounging around for spilt seed. Sad.

3. I seem to be in a constant stage of change lately. Moving furniture around again. Can't make up my mind where I want stuff to be. Maybe I have too much stuff.

4. Isn't it scary when you are bolted out of a deep sleep by a noise? And, then you realize it's just the ice-maker!

5. My Random Five from the past.....
We had just moved in to our home on Main Street when it came a big snow. I was delighted for we didn't get much snow in Alabama. This is a picture of our side yard. The year 2000.

                 Sure hope all my southern blog buddies are finished with this Polar Vortex stuff.
                       And, as far as it's concerned it can leave us alone too!! Stay warm, you all.
                                                                                                                          

We Got Snow!

Good snowy morning to you from my little home on Main Street!!

I got up to 2 degrees wind chill factor this morning but I am not going to go outside and check that out. No siree bob! I am staying inside where it is warm. I'll let the weatherman keep me posted on the temp.

Do we ever stop and thank God for warm houses, cozy quilts, heavy coats? We certainly should.

I did crack my kitchen door just a tad at midnight last night and braved the cold enough to stick my hand (with a camera attached) out there and snap a couple pictures.

Okay, you photography buffs, can you answer this one for me. Even though the snowflakes were minuscule, when I used the flash they looked like baseballs.

 

The snow was beginning to cover the gold dust bush at the back door.

 

My neighbors cars sitting in her carport across the street. The flash picked those tail lights up really nicely.

 

This morning this sleepy eyed little titmouse was looking for something to eat. I managed to ease the lens of my camera through the drapes to take it's picture while it ate on the window feeder. 

 

I love this shot of the cardinals and the snow-capped feeder at the edge of my yard.

 

There is something so peaceful and calm about snow. Then why, I ask you, does my RETIRED neighbor think he has to crank up a snow blower and disrupt my nice peaceful day? He's not going anywhere so why disturb the glittery white stuff that covers our world.

 

For those who asked where the snow pictures were taken that I used in a post recently.... I was visiting my daughter in New York last January and it came a big snow. I had my camera ready.

 

Another photo tidbit. I have been so dying to make those wonderful pictures where the birds are focused and the background is blurred (and you do it with flowers, too). So, I found out why I can't do that!! The fstop on my camera won't go below 2.8. Well, I'm not going to run out and buy a new camera so I can have a smaller f-stop.

 

Oh, and on another note.... I received one copy of my manuscript yesterday in the mail, which my daughter, Marie, had been proof-reading, making corrections and suggestions on and it blew me away. One more step toward that publishing date. Next week I get the copy from the editor for final review before shipping it off to be printed. Super excited.

 

 

 

 

 

Just Thoughts

Good Morning,

It's time for Random Five Friday. Seems like yesterday that I did the last one. Was that a week ago? Geez. Time is flying. But, you all click on the link and check everyone out on that meme.

#1. I've been worried about my sister. She's 89 and had her gall bladder removed last week. Poor thing. Surgery is tough at any age but doubly so as we age.

#2. Was happy, happy, happy to see some sunshine yesterday. It has been a week of rain and more rain.

#3. I'm curious about blogging. What, you say? It just seems that the participation has slacked off considerably, at least for the ones I blog with. I get few comments unless I do a meme. Is everyone getting tired of blogging? Or is it me? Perhaps my blog isn't interesting enough or something. Oh there I go with self doubt again. But, you gotta wonder.

#4. I am so happy that the shut-down is over but so sad that it cost so much both here in this country and in the eyes of the world.

#5. I used to do a memory random thought and haven't in awhile. Think I will do one today.

That picture was made in 2009. Every Fall I have a lot of leaves in my yard and there I was raking away. It was a huge job. But, I finally got smart and bought a leaf blower, one small enough for me to handle!!                                                                                              No more raking!!         
                                                                                                              

Random Five Friday

Nancy C. has Random Five every Friday. A fun time is had by all so why don't you join in?

1. I have had a mystery vine in my yard. I have no idea why it decided to grow there, it just did. It has two little pumpkins on it and I can't wait to see them grow into big pumpkins!

 

2. This is the time of year when the butterflies are at their best. They are oh, so busy gathering nectar from my abelia bushes. I love to watch them.

3. My heart is breaking for my daughter who is in the process of finding a residential home for her 20 year old son with autism. Please join me in prayers that God will show her the right place for this precious grandson of mine. Thank you!

4. I feel really good about the decision to downsize and then get my home organized. I'm just getting too old for all this clutter.

5. And, a note from the past...

While Elbert was in the Alzheimers wing in an assisted living facility I challenged him to an arm-wrestling match. The little stinker beat me, too!!

Barbecue

I thought I'd join in ABC Wednesday. When I did my own ABCs posts some time back it was such fun and then I discovered that there was a meme for that! Go over and check them out.

                                                     Today's letter is 'B'.

Since it is summertime and a lot of folks are barbecuing I thought it fitting that I would use                                               
                                               BARBECUE as my B word.

The dictionary says that barbecue can be a grill, pit or fireplace for roasting meat.

It also describes the meat cooked in that manner. (This sandwich is from Virginia Barbecue in Carrolton, Va.)

And, it is what we call a get-together when we all gather round and gobble up all that good food.

Rain and More Rain

What dummy would walk outside in the rain to make pictures?

A blogger. Yep, you get an A+ for that answer.

If a person makes a picture around here lately you have to get out in the rain. It is hard to stand by and watch my flowers droop but yet I bet their roots are sucking up all that moisture and loving it.

                                            My water-soaked lilies lie on the ground.

                                        The gardenia is bowing under the weight of water.

 

A mushroom has popped up underneath the patio planter.

 

Puddles form in the driveway

 

And the gutter is overflowing.

 

Rain, rain go away

 Come again some other day!
