Barns In The Fog

Today it has rained...

I wonder if in the morning there will be fog....

There sometimes is when the rain and the weather are just right. 

Once on a trip, where I was taking pictures, it was foggy.

There's a mystery in things shrouded in fog, don't you think.

                                                                                                                                

Barns in Western Virginia

For several years I have been participating in the Barn Collective  linky. 

                                                 I love Barns! 

                           I grew up playing in the loft of my Grandpa's barn.

I had just about exhausted the barn supply in my area but....

On my surprise birthday trip to the western part of Virginia recently I saw a lot of barns.

                                      Here are three of them...

A Ride Through The Wintry Woods

                                                I continue with my birthday surprise!

On Sunday afternoon, after a very delightful breakfast buffet and a donut with a candle in it and the staff singing happy birthday,
                                                  We took a carriage ride. 

It's January, for goodness sakes, sunny, cold and we are going for a ride through the Virginia woods.

                                                    Sounds like fun to me!

                                                    Our shuttle takes us to the stables....

Mike, our jovial driver, is busy getting the horses and carriage ready for our ride.

We go by the falconry. No falcons there today.

There are clubs that bring their falcons there for special events.

The ride through the wintry woods is delightful.

The journey over, we head back to the stables.

Duke (the one nearest the camera) and Duchess pulled our carriage. Mike kept snapping the reins over Dukes back. He says Duke is lazy and let's Duchess do all the work. Isn't that just like a male? Okay. that's a joke. Sort of. he he

Red Barns in the Fog

Some more barns for Tom's Barn Collective. 

Photos taken on our trip through the western part of Virginia recently... on a foggy morning. These are all red painted barns. I love that look. 

Old and New Barns

When Michael and I went to Tennessee on a furniture shopping jaunt, we passed a great number of barns, some of which I have already posted. Here are the last ones from my visit to Alabama. These were taken in Tennessee.

A more modern style barn. Looks like they have been doing a bunch of clearing from the site.

Sorry about the blurry weed right in the front of this barn. It's hard taking pictures when you are traveling at 60 or more miles an hour. I wasn't driving, by the way.

This is so past GONE...
At least the fence posts are still standing.

Grey Barns

Most barns are not painted. I love the old, weathered look, don't you? These pictures were made in Alabama. Just speaks volumes to me. Joining with Barn Collective.

I love the vine growing out of the side lean-to. 

A very interesting pattern in the lumber layout on this barn. 

Same barn... just showing the cows in the pasture, so we know that this one is a working barn.

More Barns

More barns from North Alabama and central Tennessee. 

This is farming country so there are quite a number of barns along the roadside. As always, I am shooting on the fly... that's just the way it is. Linking with Tom's Barn Collective.

Interesting Barns

On our way to Leoma, Tennessee Michael took at back road much to my delight. There were so many barns. My camera was in my hand and I snapped as many as I could. Traveling down the road is not the best way to take pictures but most times, that's all I have.

So, Tom, over at Barn Collective , I have barns to share on your linky today. I am so thrilled I can join in.

This one was just an amusement to me. Lots of tin, rusty in places, falling down, added on to. This barn has stories to tell I am sure.

A different shape, much used. Seen it's last days. But, this one and the one before it both have green siding on the front. Must have had a sale on that particular siding!

This one shows the fence more so than the barn. That's a grown up lot in front but the pasture behind looks well clipped.

Little Things To Be Thankful For

I am in Alabama visiting with my son. We drove down four days ago and have been enjoying time together. Sometimes it's just the Little Things that make you truly Thankful on Thursday.

Barns and Shadows

It's a lazy Sunday afternoon. Church was uplifting, so was my nap afterward. Gotta have that nap!! Must be the age thing.

Grey Barn and Two Horses

I have another barn to share today on Tom's Barn Collective. This one was in Tennessee. I love red barns but there is something about the old grey weathered look that tugs at my heart. 

This one is only one of several outbuildings. And, they have horses!! I see two of them. Have you seen a barn lately? With animals outside? That's a real treat. Dang those electric wires! It seems that those things are everywhere.

The Old and the New

Whee Hee... what a week!! My son-in-law put about 1700 miles on his truck. Round trip to Alabama! Spent the week with my son. Nothing better. 

I got some barn pictures!! Another whee hee!! And a lot of other things, too. But, today it's Tom's Barn Collective and I get to join in. That's a 'good thing'. For me, anyway.

Here are a couple I saw in Tennessee. We covered some new territory so I saw barns I hadn't seen before. Of course, it's hard to take pictures from a moving vehicle but the driver had a destination and he was 'moving on'.

On a recent outing we ran across this barn. It's seen better days but those kind have the most character!

Thursday's adventure for Friday Fives

There is nothing like a good outing, after weeks of winter weather, to lift the spirits. I want to share with you what I did yesterday, along with daughter Shirley. 

I do love good food, and a new restaurant to investigate!  Brand-spanking new... on the water so great view and a yummy crab-cake sandwich, oh my. Daughter Shirley says she's posting a new post on our lunch blog soon about our adventure. I'll let you know when she has it up. 

I'd found this guy on Facebook, Jeb the Butcher and he does his own butchering, packaging, making his own bologna, sausage etc, all in a wholesome, clean way. That was our next stop. I bought sausage (fresh ground, I can't wait to taste it), a chunk of colby cheese and a container of Brunswick Stew for a friend who fell a couple days ago and was badly injured. With a dislocated shoulder, 3 broken ribs and cuts and bruises, she won't be cooking anytime soon. 

On the way home, I saw a barn that I had never seen before. Since I have participated in Tom's Barn Collective often I wanted a picture of this one for that. I will have more pictures when the Barn Collective comes up next. 

Who doesn't love a beautiful sunset. I am pretty much surrounded by trees so any I see is behind those. But, just look at that sky. Gorgeous. 

And, I ran across this quote, which I love, while I was reading a book by Joan Anderson. Just wanted to share it with you.
