Now, I know I shouldn't have..... but I did it anyway!! I knew that there were biscuits already made and waiting in the bread drawer. All it would take would be a bit of heating in the oven.
Oh yes, there was that white thickened gravy I had the other day and the rest was in the frig. It surely needed to be used soon.
And, the last, red ripe, juicy tomato I had bought at the farmer's market was staring me in the face.
So, I gave in... I really shouldn't have but I did. I heated those biscuits, split them open and placed them on a plate. I sliced that tomato and laid the slices on top of the biscuit. Then I dumped (yes, dumped... at this point there was no fancy ladling) the warmed up gravy on top of all that. Then I sat down and ate til my heart was content. It was washed down with a cup of hot tea. Have any of you done anything like that? I tell you, that was the best breakfast I have had in ages.
Now, the biscuits are gone. The tomato, too (at least until I get back to the market) and who knows when I will make gravy again? But, it sure was heaven while it lasted!!!
Just a note about the sign at the top of this post.... you blogger friends are my biscuits and gravy!!!!
My favorite breakfast! My kids expect me to make biscuits and gravy when they visit. My granny made me biscuits and gravy when I spent time with her in the summer. She has passed on. B & G are comfort food for me!
ReplyDeleteWell---sometimes we just have to do what we have to do. Right???? ha ha... I love breakfast --but am eating light these days (dieting)... BUT--IF I could, I'd eat those biscuits and gravy also!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
That sounds so delicious to me!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we shouldn't but we do!!! We all do it! Boy, I wish I could have enjoyed that wonderful breakfast with you. Yum! That was a great way to start your day!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet. I was raised on gravy, you know. And I have the hips and thighs to prove it.
ReplyDeleteJeep loves this! When we want to have a special brunch in 'tomato season', that's what we have and maybe add some bacon!
ReplyDeleteComfort food for sure! Isn't it wonderful how a favorite meal leaves us in a great 'comforted' mode? I like the white gravy Dairy Queen has in their 'chicken strips' basket meal. Now that I'm gluten free we rarely have it. And biscuits with gravy...(never tried it with tomatoes) sound like manna from heaven!
ReplyDeleteYou are making me hungry. Looks so yummy.
ReplyDeleteYUM! Mom, that sounds so delicious!!! I'll be glad when I have fresh tomatoes, and then I will just have to treat myself one morning!
ReplyDeleteHi, there,
ReplyDeleteJust recently, I discovered Marie's blog quite by accident, and we've become e-mail buddies. She may have mentioned it to you - I live in Smithfield, and went to school with Wally, your mechanic! Nice to meet you - love your blog; I'll be checking out more of your posts. I look forward to meeting Marie on her next visit here, and maybe I'll meet you then too!
Dianna
Marie and I have been e-mailing of late and she told me I had to come and visit with her Mama. So here I am.
ReplyDeleteYou have an excellent post here but I will not be copying your idea completely. I love making sandwiches on biscuits with tomatoes and cheese but do not care for sausage gravy. Me and food make for a heavy subject though. In fact I just posted a rant about my recent tea hunts.
Oh, my goodness! That sounds like just the thing for a cozy spring treat! Love the idea of the tomato! Sounds so "healthy" that what!
