So, here's a cat I did. Part of it I like but I see parts that I don't.
Hopefully I will improve as I go along.
And, here's a barn and tree. Now, I have real trouble with sketching/painting structures so that barn is pretty awful. I like the tree. I use graphite and charcoal pencils when I sketch.
I am open for constructive suggestions. Not to worry, my feelings don't hurt easy and I need all the help I can get.
Now
How about a little color on this black and white post?
A kitty's face done in pastels.

i love those drawing... so talented picuters:) follow;) hope U follow back:)
ReplyDeleteAnimals, human faces (and really, human bodies in general) and man-made structures with their perfect lines and angles are all hard to master. Landscapes and still-lifes are easier because of the fluidity of the lines. I wouldn't worry if you have trouble with cats...one cat picture you did was amazing that you posted a few weeks ago, but this one has some issues. The one at the bottom isn't bad at all. But, if I were you, I would stick to mostly flowers and fruit and hillsides with trees, that sort of thing, till you are more comfortable. You do amazing glass vases, too, by the way...That's hard to do. If you do a cat, I would suggest maybe a couple of kittens playing around a laundry basket under a tree, or something like that...not close-up portraits of cats. I like your suggestion about the online tutorials...maybe someone does animals. I had a hard time doing Michael's portrait of Casey that I did, but part of the problem was that she was so lightly colored. Like painting snow...really hard. But I liked my sketches of her better than the painting I ended up with and sent to him. Did you see it while you were there?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cats sketches ~ love the ones with the many colors ~ thanks,
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Week ahead ~ ^_^
Love the cats and the tree so much. The barn is straight on. It is done correctly, I think, but would be more interesting if it was at an angle to the viewer. You have a real ability for sketching.
ReplyDeleteNice sketches! Great use of color in the pastel.
ReplyDeleteI like to sketch too... I go through spells of time with one medium being my favorite and then another one will be . Right now I'm really into painting. Who knows what will be next.
ReplyDeleteThe tree in the second shot is wonderful! I have a lesson somewhere on perspective, I'll send it to you if/when I find it. It helps to get the angles right on structures.
ReplyDeleteFantastic artwork Jan! Your sketches are wonderful and inspiring! Happy PPF :)
ReplyDeleteI love your sketches! I love to lay down an idea in pencil then use watercolor to add color. :)
ReplyDeleteNot bad at all for a beginner ! I think a drawing book could help you. I paint, I love it it's my hobby since a long time.
ReplyDeletenice sketches :) the more you do, you will see more improvement. try to see if you can find some youtube videos about drawing for beginners, they might help you.
ReplyDeleteI think these are wonderful....I especially like that tree and barn...and yes, I like the barn...as much as the tree.
ReplyDeleteLatane! I'm so glad to find you here. I love love love your sketches! I used to love to draw and this makes me want to find a sketchbook and revive the joy of it! I understand completely the desire to step away from an Alzheimer's journey; I know I will do the same when my mom is safe at home with the Lord. If you'd like to keep up with me, I do monthly posts about our farm life at LindaBorn.blogspot.com And you can read my new book, 100 Days to Freedom, online through daily posts at onehundreddaystofreedom.blogspot.com. I will be visiting this blog often--you were an encouragement to me even as you were going through such a difficult time yourself. Hugs and prayers!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us, Latane. What fun sketches and you're off to a great start! The only thought I have is maybe relocating the little branch with the leaves at the side of the cat or making a thicker branch come from behind it so as it seems more a part of the tree. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteYes, I do sketch. Not so much recently.
