Medical Journal

I have kept a medical journal since 1987

I am finding it a very valuable resource when my brain won't remember facts from past illnesses. You know how the dr. makes you fill out all those forms when you go see him!!

Well, the little notebook got full. So, I went to the store. Bought a thicker notebook and sat down to copy all that info into the new book.

Lordy mercy. It's just amazing to see what you've lived through when it is there in black and white.

Take 2002 for instance. My entries started out that year with doing pre-op to get a knee replacement.

Seems I had lost 50% of my red blood cells. Now how does a person do that and not know it?
And, how does your doctor not know?

So the search started to find the cause.

I won't go into all the gross details but they found colon cancer. They cut out 2 feet of my colon and 15 lymph nodes.

So, today, for Thankful Thursday I'm just baring my soul and sharing my medical journal with all of you. I am so thankful that my knee needed replaced......
or I might have died with something I didn't know I had.

  2. Keeping a medical log is a good idea. I do save information and just tend to drop into a file folder. You method is much more orderly, Latane.

  3. Such a blessing how this was found by accident, and how it was dealt with so adeptly...and you have been cancer-free all this time! God is so good!

I put together a three-ring binder of my medical stuff in AZ, and now need to start one for OR. I don't have one for Russell, but his is so extensive it's hard to visualize it in a 3-ring binder. Just feel like maybe an overview of what's in the filing cabinet would suffice, or a journal like yours. My binder DID help me when I started filling out those forms with the new Dr's that's for sure!

  9. This is a good idea to keep this kind of journal. I kept one for my husband when he was sick. It was very helpful when we made a trip to the doctor. He saw so many, it was good to keep track of everything.
