Being Alone

Can you imagine being old and all alone, no one to care about you, care whether you lived or died?

There's people like that in this world. Some, a few want it that way. Some are that way by circumstance. Some just never made the effort to stay connected to those who cared.

We all have to work at any relationship (parenthood, marriage, friendship). If we let people slip away from us, if we don't make the effort, then we have no one to blame but ourselves.

It's extremely important that we see somebody every day. If you do nothing but say hello to a neighbor over the fence, smile at a passerby, chat with the mailman.

It's so easy if you are alone to become isolated. Why don't you make a pact with yourself to make that effort to see someone, call someone, be 'part of the world around you'. It can be a challenge but you can do it.

  3. One of the reasons we moved to this retirement community is just because of that. Our lovely house was isolated and I could go all day without speaking to anyone. Here that is lots of interaction with neighbors and new friends. That is so very important for good health and many forget that importance as they age.

  5. Hello Latane!
I thought of you today. We went to Pickwick TN (an hour's drive) to have lunch with friends. When I saw the Great Blue Herons there, I thought how blessed you were to see Herons from your window right there where you live!
I hope you have a great week filled with friends!

  6. This is so true, Latane, and why I try to keep in contact with so many others and one of my favorite ways is through sending cards and notes. Everyone enjoys getting a piece of correspondence thatblets them know someone is thinking of them. This is something not possible through social media, at least not for me.

  7. Oh yes, how I agree with this! Sometimes friends are much better at keeping in touch than relatives, but no matter who, we must have other people in our lives, daily if possible. If it takes effort on our own part we must do it - get out and about, travel if able, move if you have to, chat with anyone who seems interested in conversation. . . . . . .and if you have to start by talking first, do it, you'll soon know if the listener is interested in spending time with you!

Enjoy this special day. . . . . . . and all the many others to come Latane!
    Hugs - Mary
