Memories

I, from time to time, link with Tom over at Barn Collective on Mondays. Well, it's Monday and I want to share this with all of you.

It's hard to give up a loved one. During the grieving process you think about all the wonderful times you've had together. Leslie (my sweet companion for 5 years) and I loved to take rides. I remember one of our earliest times together we went to Smithfield (Virginia) and in getting to know each other the question came up "What do you like to do".  His answer was 'flying remote control airplanes'.

When I said that photography was one of my pasttimes, he was astounded. His thought of 'taking pictures' was when the family got together and a snapshot was made to record the event. But, soon he was taking me on drives out in the country, helping me look for photo opt moments, and slowing down so I could shoot from the car. He was such a sweet man!

On the last little trip we took before he passed away in June we again went to Smithfield. Had some barbeque at Q Daddy's and then I drove over to Windsor Park. (I was doing the driving by then since he was not well) There is an old historic house there called Windsor Castle and sitting in the back of the house was my photo opt!! I stopped, got out and took these pictures. It makes me cry to remember our times together. I miss him so much.

  1. I remember Leslie. You were just going on those wonderful rides when you and I slipped apart. He seemed like such a nice, gentle man. I'm sorry, Latane. I really am. Five years is a long time. Please accept my sincere sympathy. I am sure he was a treasure.

  4. The saying you posted says it all. This December marks 10 years since I lost my Dad. I can't believe it has been that long and he's missed all that has happened in my life in these years.

  8. I'm so sorry that you lost your friend. In the last 6 years we lost both sets of parents and several dear aunts. Losing our loved ones leave us with sweet memories and holes in our hearts. Lovely photos of your special day together. Sending hugs xo Karen

  10. Oh, Latane, I am sorry to hear of his passing...love your photos.

When Roger was in the hospital, and then in rehab, I would cry on the way home just at the sight of a beautiful sunset...because we always enjoyed them so much and I wondered would we ever get to enjoy them together again.
