Here are a few ........
My Antonia
Lincoln's Last Hours
(this was written by the doctor who attended him as he lay dying.)
Water for Elephants
(even though there were a couple 'embarrasing' moments I loved the book)
Incidents in the Life of A Slave
Thunder Dog
(true story of a blind man whose dog led him out of the Twin Towers )
Free Air
(I enjoyed this book by Sinclair Lewis)
Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy
(I knew so little of WWII so this book taught me of the
horrors through the story of Bonhoeffer and his courage)
Ketchup is a Vegetable: and Other Lies Moms Tell Themselves
(written by a woman who grew up in my hometown- I did not know her.
A funny twist on the everyday trials of raising three small daughters)
A Knight in Central Park
(this fantasy book was a complete turn in time frame for me)
The Life of Mrs. Robert Louis Stevenson
Sisters
(by Kathleen Thompson Norris)
The Help
(this is a wonderful book)
My favorite? The Help, of course, but second would probably be The Life of Mrs. Robert Louis Stevenson. It made me want to travel to tropical places with all the books the Stevensons wrote and just lounge on a hammock under a palm tree reading them all.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year for 2012!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link ,some of the books I have read but like to see other readers list so I can make a list of books not read. I stated a blog (My reading list) when I got my e-readed so I could keep up with books I read and it is fun to get comments about the books.
Some great books in your list, some I've read, and the ones that stick with me are My Antonia (a great classic), and of course Water For Elephants - they did a great job with the movie too.
ReplyDeleteThis year my favorite book had to be The Calligrapher's Daughter - an amazing story set in Korea.
As for football - NEVER, I have no interest whatsoever!
Happy, healthy, beautiful New Year to you and yours.
Mary
I am most ashamed to admit I cannot remember my last good book. But I read the most interesting blog postings every evening - sometimes long into the night. I wish a most Happy New Year to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteYou've been a busy girl reading.....sounds like a lot of interesting books.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Latane!
Stopping by to send you wishes for the new year. Have a JOY-filled year ahead.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Latane! I've read a multitude of books this year...the main one you and I share is The Help!
ReplyDeleteHaving grown up in the south this book really touched home with me! I remember when life was the way it was described in the book! I tried to be more involved with College Football the past season...particularly the Black Knights of West Point! I miss having Don to watch football with, so really haven't managed to get into it since he died!
I have ordered 'the Help' from the library and am looking forward to reading it. You have an impressive list that you've read. I read a lot too, but am too lazy to try and remember the titles. =)
ReplyDeleteI am impressed with all the reading you have been doing since you got that Kindle, Mom, and I love your choices! I haven't been reading as much as I would like...perhaps I can add that to my New Year's resolutions!
