Christmas Past

Christmas time always brings back a flood of memories for me. Sort of like Scrooge's trip through Christmas Past only mine are nice memories.

Today I'd like to share a few pictures of my Christmases Past.

Elbert and I traveled to Chesapeake, Va. for Christmas in 1992. I gave my granddaughter a porcelain doll which I had made. I had fun making dolls for awhile and I am happy that Y. has one of them.

In 1994 my Mom was in an assisted living facility. We had a wonderful Christmas together. She passed away just 1 1/2 years later.

Just before Christmas of 1994 Elbert and I went to Opryland and here we are at the Opryland Hotel. Such a special holiday memory.

This was Christmas 1999 and it was our first Christmas in our new home in Virginia. I went all out with the decorations that year.

I shot this picture through a window of my grandchildren preparing Christmas dinner in my kitchen. It's wonderful having grandchildren who cook!! The year 2003

Most Christmas mornings we are at my daughter's house next door opening presents. In 2006 the gifts nearly dwarfed the tree.

In 2009 I was worn out from shopping in a mall in White Plains, NY with my daughters. Can't you tell I've about had it!!

What would Christmas be without snow! And, we got it big time in NY in 2010. Brrrr.

I never got to sit on Santa's lap when I was little. Now, I can mark that off my bucket list.

What are some of your favorite Christmas memories? I'd love to hear about them.

  1. Beautiful photos of all of the wonderful memories. Love the last one of you sitting on Santa's lap!!!!! Too Cute!

I have so many wonderful memories... One which I will cherish forever is our weeks in Arkansas during Christmas when my sons were teens... We'd go up there to our time-share condo and enjoy Christmas SO MUCH...(We lived in Texas at the time --where the weather was NOT Christmas-like usually.)

    Merry Christmas.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. Oh! Such wonderful memories and pictures of Christmas! Thank you for sharing :)

I remember the 5 of us traveling in the old Volvo 245 GL from WA to CA to spend Christmas in Monte Sereno with all my aunts great aunts and uncles and great uncles and grandma and grandpa--that was probably sometime in early 80's, and I was 5 years old. All of us kids got noise-making toys like a mini Casio keyboard and a muppets keyboard that made TONS of noise on the ride home LOL

  6. I'm so glad that you finally got to sit on Santa's lap!!!! I have an 8 x 10 black and white photo of me on Santa's lap at a store here in town. I am about 5. My leggings matched my coat and had zippers on the ankles to keep the snow from getting in there.

One of my favorite memories (oh, I have so many)when my cousins, my sister and I put on our annual Christmas show at Grandma's house. She had a landing at the bottom of the stairs so we used that as the stage. All the parents, Grandma and Grandpa were all sitting in their easy chairs and we would sing and act. We were pretty good singers and I must say I will never forget the fun we had.

Oh...what fond memories. It is just my sister and I left here on earth. The other two have passed away.

I really enjoyed seeing your memorable pictures. I really love the one of you on Santa's knee.

Blessings to you and those you love,
    Susannah

  10. Such nice memories. I especially like the candid shot of your grandchildren working in the kitchen.

I, too, am posting "Christmas' Past" on my Facebook page to share with my kids. I included some from my growing up, so my sister's family can enjoy them, too.

Here's to many more wonderful Christmas memories.

    Merry Christmas, Karen

  11. Love the photo of you on Santa's lap. Our daughter was three for her first trip to see Santa, but she was not interested--at all! So, we never tried again. When she was 18, she wondered why we never had any pictures of her with Santa, like her friends did. I told her about the one-time experience, and then she went and got her picture taken with him! Merry Christmas!

  12. Sweet photos of some sweet memories! So nostalgic for me as well. Oh, Yvonne has TWO porcelain dolls you made her! The other has long brown hair like her. Remember. By the way, I forgot to say in the last comment...tell Shirley those snowflake cookies are awesome! Well, everything she does is awesome, but I love snowflakes and those cookies are pretty neat.
