A is for a very vintage Alaska

Way back when..... I was a young girl in love with this sailor. Tall, Dark, Handsome. Oh MY!!!

But, I was in school in Alabama and he was in the Navy in California doing what Uncle Sam ordered him to do.

I get this letter telling me that his unit is being sent to ALASKA.  Where it was very cold. They were testing out cold weather equipment and clothing. Our government was afraid that we'd go to war with Russia and our boys would be faced with the coldest cold they could image.

So my A for ABC WEDNESDAY is ALASKA.

    I loved Alaska when I visited some years ago. Of course it's 'grown up' a lot since these pics were taken - but I love them and often wish I could back in time and see places as they used to be. . . . . . . weren't they 'the good old days'?????

    Love your A is for Alaska! Great vintage photos Mom! Sure looks a lot colder than I want to be in! :-) The old photos are great for Rubbish Tuesday! You see how my Rubbish Tuesday worked well becoming A for Ancestors. Now I have to start thinking of a good B for next week! :-)

    Wonderful vintage photos. Our son in law had to go for cold weather training in the Marines just recently. For Afghanistan they had to be trained for the cold and for desert conditions, too. He trained in both climates.
