This and That

1. My heart aches for those people in Nice, France. I just don't know what this world is coming to. With the elections coming up, we all need to be in prayer and also do some soul-searching about who we want our leader to be.

2. Let me tell you about a weird experience I had at lunch the other day. Our group of 15 from our apartment building went to a restaurant for lunch. The service was very slow. I ordered a chicken salad but everyone else got an entree with sides. They all got their plates FINALLY.  All but me. When I finally flagged down the waitress she brought my salad out. I picked up a strip of chicken, put it between my teeth and pulled.... and pulled harder..... and pulled harder. It was like I had a strip of leather in my mouth. So, I gave the dish back to the waitress. Do you want to order something else? she asks. No, everyone else is about finished. So, I got an empty plate and people shared their lunch with me, fish from one, salad from another, hushpuppies from another. At least I got something to eat!!

3. It is hotter than blazes here!! Was 99 degrees when I came out of the grocery store yesterday.
Needless to say, my A C has run none stop.

4. My poor little petunias are suffering in this heat. This is an earlier picture taken when the weather was cooler and my flowers were doing better.

5. Wish I could stay inside today... and just visit with all of you but my cupboards are nearly bare. A person does have to eat... so, off to the store I go. Have a great weekend. Stay cool, stay safe.

  2. Broken hearted here today - the TV coverage last evening showed how cruel and wicked people can be in this now frightening and very sad world.
I made sure my brother and family were not attending the Bastille Day celebration in Nice - they live further west in the south of France and thankfully are safe.

Yes, terrible heat and humidity here in NC too - big a/c bills coming for this hot month!
Stay safe and be cool - Mary x

  3. Such a shame when the service is so poor in restaurants, how nice of everyone to share a little something I bet that made for a great meal.

  4. Best to eat at home, but the service may also be slow. I hope that I will be able to remeber these HOT days this winter when I'm freezing!

  5. Nice post (and email!) this morning! Yes, it is horrible about Nice, France. So sad everything that is happening in the world...and I fear it is just going to get worse. Sorry your restaurant visit was so bad. Once when we were pretty new in our church here, a bunch of us went to lunch somewhere after church, and little Ejaye, the Navajo lady ordered something that wasn't right so she sent it back, and Russell didn't eat a bite till she got her plate of correct food. It made her just love him for being so gentlemanly. She's a sweetie, and we just adore her. I'm glad your friends shared their food with you! Love your petunias! Sorry they aren't doing well in the heat. I will write very soon!

  6. Yes, we too are very sad because of what happened in France. I'm very happy, by the way, that the UEFA Euro 2016 (it's soccer!) went safely. It surely was an inviting target for terrorists.
I hope you will get some cool weather there! Your petunias are so pretty!
    Have a great weekend!
PS Your header is lovely as well!

  7. Yikes - that lunch did not sound like fun! Wouldn't be going there again. I think you were an afterthought. I hope you had an enjoyable time out otherwise!

    Enjoy your weekend

  8. That's awful that you received such poor service at the resturant. I'm glad your friends shared. I hate it when it's hot too. Stay cool. Yes the world is indeed a scary place right now.

  9. I hope that you stay cool, that really does sound incredibly hot. The restaurant doesn't sound good, I don't suppose they will be seeing you again! Thank you for joining Five On Friday, I hope you have a great weekend! xx

  10. I'm doing everything I can to stay in the house -- just too hot for man, beast and flowers! If I have to get out, I try to get all my running around done early in the day. The restaurant sounds like one I wouldn't be visiting a second time although it sounds like you got to sample a bit of everything from your friends. Stay cool!

  16. I absolutely love the design of your blog. I went to your profile to see where you live, as you mentioned the 99 degrees. You are one talented lady. What an interesting life. Like Forrest Gump, you can say, "At least I didn't live no humdrum life".

  17. Many of the places I lived across the USA were so hot and humid sometimes...MA, MO, CA, TX, NY, especially, and my visits in VA were during hot and humid times as well. You have my heartfelt sympathy. I'm so glad you have AC and I am glad your friends helped your lunch not be a total loss. I join you in asking the Lord for His mercy and goodness toward us and protection from evil. xx
