This is the first oil painting I ever did. It's of an antique shop on Cornwall Street in Annapolis, Maryland. I did it in 1966. I wonder if the building is still there.
and here is one of my more recent ventures into the world of art... a pastel kitty.
I am trying to find more time to do things relating to art but somehow other things just take over my days. I must try harder to fit it in. Anyone with any suggestions for me?
I'm linking today with Sketches and Paint Party Friday
I like both your paintings, but my favorite is your gorgeous cat. I usually use most of my free time to work in my art studio, so I'm very selective about what I watch on TV. Happy Sunday Sketches!
ReplyDeleteBoth are lovely ~ my favorite is the beautiful and expressive cat ~ gorgeous! ~ thanks,
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Day ~ ^_^
Wonderful, the old and the new!
ReplyDeleteHow impressive! I too love art.
ReplyDeleteBoth are amazing and the cat is my absolutely favourite!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous work...love both pieces!! Schedule time like you do a doctors appointment.. shut everything off....you are not available except to create!! You are worth it!!Change the language from making time to taking time to create! Trust me it's the only way. You will always put it on the bottom of the totem pole if you think your time creating is frivolous! Put it at the top of your list!

What beautiful artworks! It is difficult to schedule at times, but I think it's very important to make the attempt...
ReplyDeleteGosh Latane, you really are a wonderful artist.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you save time in your busy schedule to pick up your brushes more often - you've definitely got talent!

You certainly have a talent and a great eye for the arts.
ReplyDeleteFor a first painting, excellent! And that cat...gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on both pieces, Willie!
ReplyDeleteI hear you because I go through the same thing myself — lots of other distractions where I always end up falling behind. Giggles gave some great advice.
Both are beautiful, Latane. I have done pastels in the past as well as oils. I found they are similar since mixing can be done on the canvas and paper. Your building looks great, but I really love the softness of the kitty picture.
ReplyDeleteI love that first painting!! I hope you framed it and display it in your home?? I sure would! What would be neat would be if you could go back there and photograph the same building today and then put them side by side maybe to show the difference? Unfortunately, many of the old buildings have been lost over the years, I come across that all the time doing my research for my some of my posts. Always dissapointing to know you are standing in the right spot and there is no home there anymore! But sometimes we get lucky!
ReplyDeleteI certainly felt that way when I returned to my old home place and found it had burned to the ground. Thanks for being my blog buddy!!
DeleteI always enjoy seeing your artwork. I also try to find more time for art, it is elusive!
ReplyDeleteI love the soft colors of your beautiful cat! Beautiful :)
ReplyDeletebest thing to do is a make a schedule and set time for art and keep to it. unless someone needs help desperately, that time is yours for art :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful soft paintings.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF xx
These paintings are quite lovely. I like the soft touch you have employed in your work. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice both of them, my favourite is the first one
ReplyDeleteHave a creative Saturday too
much love...
Your paintings make me feel like I am turning the pages of a fascinating book.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to know if that building is still there. Wonderful art on both old and new but I will say that kitty is fabulous. As for me I am an early riser so I take that time to draw my faces. Then no matter what I make time during my busy day to hit the studio. Even if it is only 15 or 20 minutes. Art everyday is my goal this year and so far it has worked out great. Hope you find time too.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely art both old and new. I agree with the others who said to schedule art time, it really makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteBoth are very lovely. I love old building paintings! I posted four of mine earlier today from 2008. That darling cat is so beautiful I want to hug her :)
ReplyDeleteI paint whenever the urge strikes me. I don't feel that art is something one can schedule...but this is just me thinking :)
I love seeing your art work, both old and new. I hope you find time to pursue it.
