I need some help, folks... any of you with a tad of knowledge about birds. I just am not sure about these critters. So, I'm linking with Camera Critters and Saturday Critters so maybe some of you can tell me what I have here.
These pictures were taken at Nags Head, North Carolina during my recent vacation there.
I think these are sandpipers... but the smaller ones, are they sandpiper babies?
and this one.........
I couldn't find him in my Eastern bird book. Has yellow eyes like a starling but seems bigger.
And, how about this fellow on the left. My daughter called it a Carolina Jay but again, I did not find it in my bird book. Maybe I need to get a new bird book!! And, there's that black bird again.
I fed him some cracker crumbs on the balcony railing and when I stopped I got one 'cussing out'. It was funny.
More expert shorebird people can help you out with the bird IDs...I think the black one must be a crow. How funny that he was mad at you when you ran out of crackers! :-) Did you see my note that your Five on Friday didn't show up on the link? ReplyDeleteI'm envious! You were at the Outer Banks. I love it there, usually go in the fall (to go windsuring), so I know these little critters, too, but I have no idea what they are :)

ReplyDeleteI am guessing the yellow-eyed bird is the Common Grackle. There are several scholarly websites that help ID birds. You could try one of them.

There are many kinds of starlings, so it could just be a different variety.

ReplyDeletethe tiny birds are possibly Plovers, the black bird with yellow eyes is possibly some kind of grackle, cant tell with the last one. easier for me to identify with a side view lol could be a female grackle tho
