Listening To The Radio

Michael's Scribble Picnic has 'RADIO' as the theme this week. Immediately an image came to mind of two of my children (the two middle ones) leaning on the kitchen counter listening to a new record player their Dad had brought home. Don't you just love this picture? made in 1958.

And, here is my sketch ...
Radios in the 'olden days' were so huge! I remember the cabinet holding all the paraphanelia was so big. So, I made my radio large.

  1. Hi Latane :) Nice drawing! I wish I had an authentic old radio...not a reproduction like they make today. We still listen to Jack Benny and Bob Hope on internet radio, and we just love it. The photo is adorable! :)

  2. OH, Latane...I LOVE that photo of your children so intrigued with the new record player! 1958 was the year before I was born...in my earlier childhood, I remember a buffet style cabinet my parents had which included an on-board radio and record player. The speaker areas were huge and had a type of thick fabric over them. I am loving the fond memories some of the contributions are bringing to me this week. Thanks.

By the way, another lovely take on the theme this week.

  12. Growing up we always had a radio on in the house and i can recall many of the NYC DJs on what were then popular stations...all AM too. Maybe it's why I am enjoying podcasts so much these days because it brings back such memories of listening. great photo of your children and a lovely sketch too.

  14. Latane, they had radios that big in "you day?" I thought those were from the 1930's-40's! :) Yes, that photo is adorable and I love how you've captured this very modern woman (wearing jeans) similarly listening intently! Good addition. Thank you for sharing the photo too. A perfect tie-in.
