A New Look
I've been thinking. Yep, I do that from time to time.
I've been blogging for about 10 years now, sharing everything from my everyday life, trips I have made, pictures I have taken and yes, those years of caring for my sweet husband who had Alzheimers.
People who follow have stopped following, commenters are the loyal few, even those that troll through, that you would never know about if you didn't look at the stats, are diminishing. There must be something wrong somewhere.
Well, I got to thinking. Yep, ....Oh, I said that already.
I need to either spark up things or just close the door on this business! I am getting older, it's hard to sit at the computer for extended periods of time. My time is more precious than ever before.
What to do? Hmmmm.
I have a collection (and, honey, I do mean collection, around 800) of quotes and graphics that I have saved ... meant to look at them regularly to sort of inspire, lift me up, that sort of thing. They are just sitting in a folder in MyPictures, for goshsakes, doing no one, not even me, any good.
So, I thought I'd try something. It might work. It might not. Who knows. So, be on the lookout for a new type of post from me.
I am linking this post to all those memes I have participated in so that EVERYBODY will get the word! Don't want to leave anyone out!

Sooo...you don't plan to post photos anymore? I think that would be a mistake. I like the quotes idea, but you need to post at least on photo.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say there would not be photos. I am just revamping my thought process and will use quotes sometimes to lead me in the direction I want to go, the image I am trying to project.
DeleteHi Latane :) I think that direction is a good one. :) I do something similar, I have a few blogs going, and it's more of a thought-provoking post now and then. I have maybe one or two people who respond, but it creates some very nice dialogue and great ideas to share. Good luck, I'll be watching! :)
ReplyDeleteYour header is gorgeous! I post and am online much...much less than I used to, but it is cheering to see my blogging friends leave a comment when I do post. Heartening if thats a word. My Parkinsons Disease calls the shots lots of days, but I am loathe to quit blogging....it is a blessing to me and partly my own fault for not blogging more often...wishing you all the best! You are very talented!!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a good plan, Latane! I think blogs have fallen to the wayside a little with the likes of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. BUT I don't think they will ever die. I recently read somewhere that they may even be making a comeback as people are tiring of the fast-paced Social media platforms...they want something with more depth.
ReplyDeleteI started my blog in 2006 and I still love it though, admittedly, I do need to get back to posting more about my life on top of my art stuff.
All the best with your idea.
Cheers,
Serena :)
All the best with whatever you decide, ten years is a long time. I may have been doing this for the same time now that I think about it, incredible.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a good plan in mind. I wish I used quotes more. I always get worried when my blogging friends stop blogging without any word. Even though I've never met them in person I think there is a bond there. I don't get much traffic on my blog, but I do have a few regulars I reciprocate comments with. Sometimes its catching up one day a week. I also try to remember that my blog is for me - a creative diary of sorts.
ReplyDeleteFirst time visitor to your blog. Try your new plan and see how it works.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Header photos!
ReplyDeleteLove the Good Morning smiley faces.
Ten years is a long time. Sometimes I get a bit discouraged about blogging, but then I remind myself it is my diary for myself more than for others. Though I certainly do enjoy comments! I enjoy photography, and what else would I do with the hundreds of photos I take if not for blogging?
I will enjoy visiting your blog for the graphics and quotes you have saved up. Whenever I see that you have posted just a quote, I will say 'Oh, good, she is out there enjoying the REAL WORLD!' instead of sitting in front of her computer!
You are never too old to change things up ... in fact, I think it is inspiring and would do it myself if I weren't too busy with making some other kinds of changes in my life ... like getting rid of all of my "stuff" and making a move to another location. I like that you have been thinking ... all good comes from putting thoughts to it. I look forward to seeing what you have in mind ... and I do hope you aren't going to give up on your art work for scribble picnic ... I noticed you passed on it today :( Looking forward to your future you :)

Hi Latane - I have been one of your followers, but I didn't even realize you were still blogging on this site! I thought you had switched over to your healthy living site so I deleted this one. My bad. I will put you back on the blog roll so I can keep in touch. Love your header. Hope you keep on blogging. xx Karen
ReplyDeleteYou make me smile with ‘I’ve been thinkng’ ...yeah, I get to doing that sometimes too...they say it’s good for aging brains like mine ;)))). And so is change ... and So is blogging. I’ve been at it ten years also, although I’ve cut back to once a week, that is all the brainpower I have these days. Keep it up, whatever format you choose.
ReplyDeleteLatane, I am looking forward to seeing all of your new "stuff"! Bring it on! Thanks for linking up today!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing what you have to show. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHi Latane, wonderful...follow your heart it sounds like a fantastic idea! Looking forward to seeing more of what you share.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF

I like the direction you are going in. Change is good especially on blogs and websites. I think you will feel better about your blog and people will show up to see what you are up to. Best of luck. Can't wait to see.
ReplyDeleteComing over from Five on Friday. I just returned to blogging after a 3 year break and boy how it has changed. Sad but seems like most of my old blog friends have disappeared and seems most of those that are still blogging don't even want to interact anymore. I fear blogging has become a thing of the past :(
ReplyDeletesounds like you just need to refresh things for yourself after so many years of blogging. Give it a shot and don't let it go yet. I feel like the blogging community is much more connected and heartwarming than the other social media which is why I love it so. And I recently heard from two internet friends who have now gone back to blogging and went off FB. I haven't been blogging near as long as you , and yes it does take time but I post only once a week. Good luck, and happy PPF! PS: LOVE your header.
ReplyDeleteI have only been blogging since March this year, so I have tremendous respect for those who have been faithful for 10 years - WOW. Whatever you decide to do, I would only suggest that it be FOR YOU. Life is too short to invest it trying to meet the expectations of others.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense, Latane, now, as I was wondering why no comment but now I get it. As it is, like the other comments here, you plan makes sense to me. I actually think it's a super way of killing two birds with one stone--sorting out your captured photos and quotes whilst also putting them together for blogs. You could consider a "skin" refresh on your blog too for extra inspiration. Also make sure it is easy on the eyes in terms of colours, fonts, etc. All the best to you. I hope, as Andrea noted above, you do continue to do your art as for me, it's a way to get to know you and the only time I have to visit people is through SCribble Picnic. Wish I could do more but just not possible. While blogging is falling off the popular list, as Serena noted, there will always be some who prefer this platform for the greater depth of writing and so on. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI think many bloggers have given up or just got busy with Facebook. But FB is not a long-term record. Please keep posting your photos.
ReplyDeleteIt is always good to try and now is the best time. I don't look at stats. I began posting to early on as I began to explore a creative life and thought blogging a good way to mark my path. Funny, tho, I don't look back at early works either. Best to you in your new trials! I like that you're willing to try something new! We need that in our lives as the years pass ;)

PS You've inspired me today! Thinking of how I can mix it up a bit!
ReplyDeleteHello, it is nice to change up the blog look. I find linking up to various parties can attract more people to your blog and to see more comments. Some bloggers have slowed down or stopped. I hope to still see your post and maybe you can find some critters for my party. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to do some "reflecting" and even change can be good. No matter what I enjoy your blog and hope you continue sharing whatever you want with us.
ReplyDeleteI like your new blog look although I did enjoy reading about your week for each Five on Friday when I came to visit. However, I hope your new plan will work for you. Love quotes as well.
ReplyDeleteThe nice thing about blogs is that they can be whatever a person wants them to be. Form, frequency, content--it's all up to you! I may not always comment, but I'll be following you via Feedly, the blog reader I use.
ReplyDeleteExcited to see what you are up to Latane!! Thanks for including me!
