The main barn was very large with a huge silo attached. There was plenty of space in the loft for hay and to the right of the door was a mural, painted I bet, by the farmer's wife (she's an artist and a darn good one).
the mural - It looks like one cow is eating the live flowers planted in front of her.
An older barn, standing testiment to the years of hard work this family has put into this farm.
I couldn't resist photoing another barn with the dead tree. I just have something for dead trees. Don't ask me what!!
A peek through the fence at a few of the cows grazing in a yellow flowered pasture. Well, at second glance, it appears that many of them are rather lazy, just lying around doing nothing!! I bet they are chewing their cud.
Hope you enjoyed your trip to this one farm with my daughter and me (and ggson who was fast asleep in his car seat).
enjoyed...love cows! where else would I get milk and yogurt! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat mural!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteLatane! I grew up in the house directly across the highway from this barn! Here's the link to a post I wrote last month in honor of my Mom's birthday.
ReplyDeleteThe roof just caved in on that second barn in the past few months.
Your post made me smile!

Great pics. I have pictures of the beach to share this week.
ReplyDeleteI love farms and old barns. Cool mural! Fun day!
ReplyDeleteA delightful look at the farm. That old barn reminds me of houses built of card, breathe on them and they fall over.
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun...and isn't it great when the little one is sound asleep...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful farm pictures!
Perfect Barn Charm post! This is an amazing barn, and I adore the mural (of course!)...very smart making the cows look like they are eating the hedges. Loved the older ones also, and the field of cows.
ReplyDeleteBut don't the cows look so content
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a small village in Quebec at the centre of farm country. Your wonderful pictures had such a familiar feel to them. I'm vegan, so was especially happy to see that the cows get to enjoy outdoor life.
ReplyDeleteooohhh that first barn is a winner and I adore the mural!! what a fun, colorful and creative post for barn charm!! does this mean I have to drive to Virginia???

What a wonderful barn! Or I should say barns. That mural is fantastic. She is definitely quite a talented artist.
ReplyDeleteI like dead trees too!
I loved your photographs of the old barns and cows in the pasture. They are so beautiful and iconic. The mural was really lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat first barn is really quaint. Too bad the second one has gone a bit to rot! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the dead tree, too. Love that mural. Great find!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was the mural cow eating the live plants, ha, ha.
ReplyDeleteFun find! I love the mural and the humor of the cow 'eating' the flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day out in the beautiful VA countryside - one of life's fond memories.
ReplyDeleteHugs - Mry
I love your barn pics !I think old trees have beautiful form & character, I like them , too!
ReplyDeleteI am attracted to old falling down barns like you are to the trees. This is a lovely dairy farm. T’is a shame the one smaller building has been left to nature, but this day and time farmers can only do so much. They are having a terrible time around here. The mural is wonderful. What a grand addition to the farm. genie
