Country Living

Perfect Spring day and a ride through the countryside with Daughter Shirley was such fun. There are so many barns in our part of Virginia so I decided to join Barn Charm and also link my post to Our World Tuesday. We found quite a few barns on our drive. Today I would like to share the one at Bacon's Castle Holsteins farm. At least that was what was painted on the front of the barn!!

The main barn was very large with a huge silo attached. There was plenty of space in the loft for hay and to the right of the door was a mural, painted I bet, by the farmer's wife (she's an artist and a darn good one).

the mural - It looks like one cow is eating the live flowers planted in front of her.

An older barn, standing testiment to the years of hard work this family has put into this farm.

I couldn't resist photoing another barn with the dead tree. I just have something for dead trees. Don't ask me what!!

A peek through the fence at a few of the cows grazing in a yellow flowered pasture. Well, at second glance, it appears that many of them are rather lazy, just lying around doing nothing!! I bet they are chewing their cud.
Hope you enjoyed your trip to this one farm with my daughter and me (and ggson who was fast asleep in his car seat).

  3. Latane! I grew up in the house directly across the highway from this barn! Here's the link to a post I wrote last month in honor of my Mom's birthday.
The roof just caved in on that second barn in the past few months.
    Your post made me smile!

  8. A delightful look at the farm. That old barn reminds me of houses built of card, breathe on them and they fall over.

  10. Perfect Barn Charm post! This is an amazing barn, and I adore the mural (of course!)...very smart making the cows look like they are eating the hedges. Loved the older ones also, and the field of cows.

  12. I grew up in a small village in Quebec at the centre of farm country. Your wonderful pictures had such a familiar feel to them. I'm vegan, so was especially happy to see that the cows get to enjoy outdoor life.

  28. I am attracted to old falling down barns like you are to the trees. This is a lovely dairy farm. T’is a shame the one smaller building has been left to nature, but this day and time farmers can only do so much. They are having a terrible time around here. The mural is wonderful. What a grand addition to the farm. genie
