It is BARN CHARM and OUR WORLD TUESDAY and I have this nice barn to share with you. Daughter Shirley and I had been over to Franklin (that's in Southampton County, Va.) to have a bite of lunch. I don't know those back roads all that well but since she was driving it didn't matter. Besides, I had my camera in hand, eyes scanning the landscape for barns. This grouping certainly made us take note.
An old barn probably not in use anymore. Just standing waiting for time to lower it to the ground.
Just past the barn and round silo I spied this interesting structure. A barn maybe. I think so but what is a bell tower doing on it's tin roof? Maybe to call workers in for lunch? You have any ideas.?
What stories this place could tell. I wonder who lived there, what they farmed and who drove this truck, now parked in the side shed, rusting away.
Nice find...I would love to know the story of this farm. Great pics
ReplyDeleteMaybe the bell 'tower' was all that was left of a church and they wanted to preserve it!
ReplyDeleteThis place is packed with character and stories. If only those buildings could talk! Terrific find!:>)
Beautiful pictures and it does makes you want to know more about the farm's past. Strange to see a bell tower!
ReplyDeleteJust love those old structures!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent place. I want to see it in person.
ReplyDeleteThat is very beautiful barn. I ask hubby what it means to have a bell tower. He says it is for calling the people at work when it is time for lunch or time to stop to work. Thanks for sharing.

I'm inclined to agree that it was once a church (or school.) Note the roof overhand just outside the door too. That suggests quick protection from the elements.
ReplyDeleteLook at that old rusty truck.. Bet it has stories to tell also...
ReplyDeleteMaybe they rang the bell to let the animals know that it was time to come home!!!!!! ha ha
Have a great day. We are STILL waiting on RAIN. It went all around us last night.. Grrrrrr.
Hugs,
Betsy
Love the photo's, don't see that much around here any more.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of those places I love to get my camera on!!! I love shooting these old places, esp when a barn, or more than one barn, is involved!
ReplyDeleteThat truck is something, too, isn't it! Great find & great shots!
Thanks so much for joining =)
What a beautiful spot! Love the weathered wood, the bell tower and the old car!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was to call people in for lunch....or as a signal of some sort.
ReplyDeleteWe had one at work that was used to call us in to lunch sometimes.
You visit the most interesting places! We see so many old barns around here going to pieces, bit by bit. Its a shame isn't it?! I too wonder who lived there and why it wasn't sold even.....if the owners could no longer farm. We don't own a farm, but I'm often filled with gratitude for what the Lord has allowed us to have and use in the here and now....that rusted truck could tell many a story I'll bet. Or would it be the same old boring....go to town once in a while for groceries. When I was a girl of about 10 I spent part of most summers with friends of my Mom....out in the country. They oiled the dirt roads and the smell was not unpleasant. The whole world seemed full of wonder then. For me. Have a nice, nice week!
ReplyDeletelove the old truck. looks like a busy farm. (:
ReplyDeleteLovely barns, Mom and that bell tower is so interesting! You found a great place to capture in your photos!
ReplyDeleteI love that! You know me and old barns! My mother told me I loved to find beauty among the ruins .... I think that's what you do, too! Would love to know if that suture was a school at one time.... Very cool!
ReplyDeleteIf only they could talk, what stories they could tell.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!!
I get the same kinds of questions when I am out and about. If only these old places had plaques like a museum to give us the answers.
ReplyDeleteI think you are looking at an old school house, not a barn. What a lovely area with so many interesting barns. It has been too hot here to enjoy driving in the country, scoping out barns!
ReplyDeleteI love your barn photos! If only those old structures could talk.
ReplyDeleteThis is the "Amp" Cobb farm and old home place on Sedley Road very near the Franklin, Va, city limits. Any one interested in more info may contact me.
