I just love little surprises that nature has to offer. I love sitting on my balcony watching for them to pop up from time to time. Yesterday was no exception.
I am linking up with Outdoor Wednesday
Why don't you check Outdoor Wednesday out and see the great outdoors from all over the world?
I've been watching a mother duck and her little babes since they were old enough to swim.
Oh, how they have grown. I know that soon she will convince them (and herself) that her babies can make it on their own and she will leave them. Or, perhaps they will just fly off in pursue of their own lives.
Yesterday I saw her swim far away from the youngsters who were splashing in the water, having a grand ole time.
Once they noticed that mama was not with them I have never seen such scurrying across the water!! Those wings got some good exercise.
Later she flew off, across the lake and into a grove of trees. I waited and waited. Then I started to worry. Had the time come for her to say goodbye to her little family? It made me so sad. Here were the ducklings sitting in the water. Occassionally I'd see one swim a foot or two and then come back. I could imagine them being afraid and very lonely. I just wanted to cry for them.
Then, suddenly, there she was. Hurrah, mama duck was back.
So, I'm sitting there feeling very relieved when suddenly I saw a doe wander out of the woods and edge the lake. A fawn was following her. I haven't seen deer here since I moved in so that was a very nice surprise.
You know, God provides us with all these wonders of nature. I am so happy I get to glimpse some of that wonder from time to time.
It is very interesting to watch wildlife and you had a great bonus yesterday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post, Mom! The baby ducks will be on their own soon, but life is so hard for those little ones, it's hard not to worry! Glad mama showed back up! And the doe and fawn! Wow! What an incredible thing to see from your balcony! Glad you live where you do, Mom, and can watch the wildlife from your own back porch!
ReplyDeleteScenes like these are gifts from God! I remember one time at the home we shared with my late mom...a doe and fawn were in the creek and they would dip their noses into the water and splash one another on a hot summer day! That was a gift too!
ReplyDeletehow very precious! you have a great view to nature's play, there!
ReplyDeleteOh...what fun to watch our wild animals. The baby ducks will be all grown up soon. I hope they stay there for you to watch.
ReplyDeleteNature does always have some amazing surprises doesn't it!
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet little ducklings. Love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful shots! Also a little duck family .. so cute! The doe and the fawn - what a wonderful photo! So lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! I love watching wildlife too although I don't get much of a chance anymore.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Thanks for sharing. It is amazing how they all seem to know when to set their young out on their own.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. Wish I could get another kitty, but allergies will not allow me to have furbabies any more.
Enjoy your evening.
I love the ducks, but it is always sweet to see a deer and her fawn.
ReplyDeleteSpring is so interesting to me because the deer shows off her fawn and the ducks shows off their ducklings. Ahhhh.....Spring is in the air.
