Graceland's Blue Tiles

Back in 2012 I took a bus tour to West Virginia. My very first sightseeing bus trip. At the time I was moaning and groaning just about the whole time. I went alone, for one thing, but did discover that a friend of mine was along with a chum of hers. They sort of took me under their wing. Once I got back home, I was like 'Oh, that trip was just the greatest'. Duh....

Anyway, we went to Elkins, West Virginia one night to have dinner at Graceland Mansion. No not Elvis' graceland!! This was the summer home of Henry Gassaway Davis who was a U. S. Senator (from W. Va., I am assuming) from 1871-1883.  He named his beautiful home away from home after his daughter, Grace.

Grace died in 1931, the house passed down through descendants awhile and was eventually presented to Davis and Elkins College. It is now an Inn with a large, very impressive dining area which students who are studying the hospitality curriculum are trained.

Our dinner there was delightful and we enjoyed touring the home. In the library... yes, I am getting to something BLUE so I can link to Blue Monday. As I was saying, in the library there was a fireplace that was surrounded by Dutch tiles. Each tile had a bibical scene on it. Very different, very pretty.

  3. Oh just LOVE these beautiful Delft tiles, Mom! What a lovely place that had to be to visit. I remember when you made that trip. I have always wanted Delft tiles in my kitchen, a backsplash, a whole wall, something! At least I have some pieces!
