Lantern Asia (part 1)

I am going to interrupt the posts about my mystery trip to interject another day trip I did last week. Yes, I know, I've been on the go alot but it's not always that way. Anyway... Norfolk, Va. Botanical Gardens had the distinct honor in having Lantern Asia come for a two month stay. The place was crowded and that last week people were being turned away. It was crazy. But, I think there was only one other city in the U. S. that got to have the display and certainly we were the only ones on the East Coast.

It would have been wonderful at night but our tour was daytime so we could ride the tram. So, let us begin our tour. This is a lengthy post. I hope you will hang in there and see it all. I may have to make this two posts. Today I am linking with Outdoor Wednesday

As we entered the gate we were greeted by two large lions/tigers/ dogs?  If you will notice closely you can see the pieces of silk fabric that are stretched over the wire sculptures. At night these were lighted from within.

Large flowers

on part of the mile long exhibit, the path was lined with tulips, lilies and other pretty flowers.

A garden of lilies. Just look at how large they are! Sorry that this is out of focus. That tram ride wasn't smooth by any means.

The temple... it was made entirely of plates, cups and saucers. And, it was big enough to hold worship services inside.

White elephants marching through the gardens. They are almost as big as the man standing there.
Remember, all these structures are wire covered in silk.

A field of insects

Another temple.

A  flower garland lined path

Water lilies on a pond.

There is so much more to see....

So, I will stop here and continue at another time.

The pictures do not do it justice. I wish you all could have seen it, too.

  1. It must have felt as if you had stepped into a storybook. Have you seen photos of how it looked at night?

    1. Oh Denise.... the exhibit is now gone. It was there two months and I wish it could have been there longer. A company from China I believe it was, closed the gardens for one month just setting it up (in Jan) and after a 2 month stint, they moved on to Australia. Now, if you want to fly over there.... hehe.
