Do You Know What This is?

While on our journey getting me back home from my stay with son Michael in Alabama.....

We were taking a sightseeing trip through the Nantahala section of the Great Smoky Mountains and found this treasure. Just had to share it with Tom at Treasures.

We started seeing this wooden platform running along the side of the hill. (You can slightly see it mid-picture) and we followed it for miles and miles and miles.

What was it? We decided it was a foundation for a train track. What do you think it is?

We found an open place with a much better view. We still weren't sure...

and finally we came upon a small TVA (that's Tennessee Valley Authority) electric plant.

The structure was a water flume, bringing water down the mountain to help make electricity.

  1. How interesting Latane! I've seen many TVA projects on my visits to Tennessee, they sure changed the landscape for good or bad. This water flume reminds me of the water catchment system on the Island of Maui. On one side of the island it rarely rains, while on the other it rains almost every day. Thanks for stopping by, I hope that you find your way back again.

  2. It certainly is an attractive structure and it would cause me to wonder, too. Lots of things cause me to wonder.
