Today I am going to tell FIVE things you may not have known about me.
1. I once lived on Midway Island (1/2 mile wide, 2 miles long out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean). That was quite an experience and sometimes quite scary.
This photo was taken from a website. The long strip on the right is the landing strip for the airplanes that the Navy was using to keep our country safe during the COLD WAR
2. At age twenty I buried a baby son. So traumatic anytime in a person's life, and especially so at age 20.
3. I was 80 years old when I had a novel published.
4. I was 16 years old when I got married. They marry young in Alabama (he he). And, guess what... it lasted.... 60 years.
5. I hiked down a mountain in the Alps. We'd ridden a lift up, walked down. It took all afternoon!!
I enjoyed this five Latane! What an experience to live on that little island! I am so sorry you had to experience the loss of a child...hugs to you ❤ thank you for linking up and have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed by your Five memories. You both were a great couple having a long life together.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the loss of your little child. How traumatic in your life...
I will google to know the location of Midway Island.Have a good day.
...I'm often midway between somewhere and somewhere else, we lost a 2 day old son 42 years ago, wonderful accomplishment, we were 21 and it has lasted 49 years, sometimes going down is harder.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know any of that about you. What a varied life you have led with many ups and downs.
ReplyDeleteMarried at 16 ?? I was still at school at that time and never thought about marriage ! Travelling and having fun came first and finally I was 25 when I married, lol !
ReplyDeleteWalking back down a mountain in the Alps!!! It sounds really nice - i hope you weren't super sore the next day . . . giggle.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I think you must be really brave . . . look at that teeny island.
I hear a pastor's wife say, "Leave and Cleve" - when she celebrates or teaches about long marriage. YOU sure set a terrific example. Thank you for sharing from your heart. love & love, -g-
What an incredible Five! Wonderful vignettes of your life, Mom. I loved it so much!
ReplyDeleteThe memories are precious. As are the pictures. All I knew was about the novel because I just read it and never wanted it to end.
ReplyDeleteThose are five incredible memories. I am sorry all these years later for the loss of a son, devastating. On the other hand, I am delighted by your hiking down an alp and writing a novel. You are one amazing woman!
ReplyDeleteI think your life has been a lot more adventuresome than mine, Latane. I think I've told you that I bought and enjoyed reading your novel
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these things from your interesting life. I can empathize with your pain of losing a little one because so did I.
ReplyDeleteGood memories and some not so good
ReplyDeleteLife goes on
An elderly friend (well, she is older than I am!) said to me yesterday "I thank God for the days I feel good." I never can think of what to say at the time, but later I thought, "I thank God for every day!"
What an interesting five! I'm so sorry for the loss of your son. Sixty years of marriage is a wonderful accomplishment.
ReplyDeletethose are some incredible memories and I'm so glad you shared with us. So sorry for the loss of your child though. wow, living on that little island looked scary, how long were you there! I love love love the pictures of y'all back in the day...what a great looking couple, and I love the fashion back then! You surely don't look your age and I had no idea you married at 16--but back then it was common and guess what?---yes, most of the young marriages did last didn't they?
ReplyDeleteFive unexpected things! Great memories. That island doesn't look big enough to live on! 😊
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for sharing these five things ... I enjoyed the photographs.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you had to experience the loss of a child.
My good wishes
