A Cup of Sugar

Do you remember the days when neighbors visited each other?

They actually would feel like they could borrow a cup of sugar from any of their friends.

                                       Where have those days gone?

I have a lot of neighbors!! There are over 100 apartments here.

A lot I've never seen....

           Some are friends.

Would I borrow a cup of sugar from them?

                                                                   NO!

Oh, they would gladly loan me one but it's just not done these days.

                                                         How about you?

Anyone you would borrow a cup of sugar from?

  1. How sad that you don't have neighbors you could ask a favor of. I think neighbors here would loan me a cup of sugar.

  2. Living in such a small and isolated community I am sure that I could borrow a cup of sugar, I would certainly be willing to help any of my neighbours.

  3. Nope. As you say, it's just not done anymore. Wonder if there is anywhere where it is still done. Very interesting...

  4. I've literally thought about bothering our next door neighbors a couple of times...but no, I wouldn't do that! As you said, just not done.

  5. I never seem to need sugar but may borrow other items now and then, perhaps a tool we don't have! Most of my neighbors around the cul-de-sac have been here many years, the newest about 4 years, the oldest 20+. We get together socially now and then and help each other out if required. My immediate neighbors, left and right, watch the house when we travel and have been known to mow the grass when we been away on a lengthy trip - which is a lovely thing to come home to!

  6. We're too far away to walk to a neighbour!
I do remember living in the city, though, and borrowing such.

  7. Now I can't remember who it was but it was recent; a neighbor needed to borrow a cup of sugar.

  9. Yes, we would not hesitate to ask a neighbor living here in the mill apts provided we already knew them. And, we have had neighbors we know ask to borrow a tool or ladder, both of which my husband lent them. You have fewer neighbors. We have over 300 apartments in this mill building.

  10. If my neighbors ask, I would be more than willing to loan them sugar and there were several that we felt comfortable do so with. Seems like now the neighborhood is changing and people move in and out before we even have a chance to say hi. No one stays long in one place anymore and many just don't know or care about being neighborly.
